We want to run this project as a community funded project because that will allow us to give a much better price/value (since we don't need to pay back an investor). It will also ensure that we'll build something that is of use for the community. The money we raise we'll convert into effort at cost of operation (taking into account the development time and the time and costs to service the rewards). This site is set up so that we'll put your money where the community thinks it's needed most: visitors can submit and vote on user stories that we'll then with our team give user points to (proportional to the effort required to implement it). We'll than implement user stories in sprints whenever we have sufficient funds collected to do so.
In the past we've seen several people trying to raise funds with chip-ins, but only ever with mixed results. This project is inspired by Kickstarter, a fundraising site (unfortunately not available in Europe): they give rewards that are in proportion with the donations they receive. When you give to this project you will not only help us build a free community tool, you will also get a reward (a Drupal card game or a premium service) for taking action and making this project possible.
